What Is Theraputic Exercise?

Therapeutic exercise is exercise specifically designed to assist in the healing of, and restoration of function to, injured or dysfunctional tissue.  This tissue may be muscle, tendon, ligament, nerve, cartilage or even bone.  These exercises often have the goal of increasing strength, endurance and/or range of motion.  The physical therapists you will find through Optimum HealthCare are experts in the creation and progression of the exercises to safely maximize shoulder function. You will find the best theraputic exercise specialists with us.

These theraputic exercises are customized for each condition for strengthening, stabilizing, and stretching restricted structures to restore normal pain-free range of motion. These exercises improve movement and proper muscle balance.

Unique to the concept of therapeutic exercise is that the exercises are:

  • Prescribed: This means that exercises are customised to the medical/biomechanical needs of the patient in response to the problems that their body displays on examination, ie. a direct reflection of a skillful examination by the physiotherapist to determine the movement, posture, strength, stability fault etc that are causing the pain.
  • Specific: This means that the theraputic exercises should also be specific to the demands of sport or job that the patient is looking to return to.
